TAST 2012 Week 7

Tulemus hakkas mulle alles viimaste pistete ajal meeldima.

On the seventh week we are doing detached chain stitch. I didn't want to do a flower, so I just let my needle decide. Half an hour later I finished with this. I kind of like it.

TAST Week 6

This week is of Chevron stitch. The first three days I just pondered over the stitch. After my successful exploration of all stitches herringbone, this seemed rigid and not very inspiring. If the essence is weak then the form needs to be strong, so the three days I just considered my options on how to make the stitch more appealing to myself. I started working on it from the center, trying every few turns to change the thread and try out its variations.

TAST Week 5

Viies nädal juba käes. Sel korral tegeleme aedpistega (herringbone stitch).

Fifth week already - and the proposed herringbone stitch. I must admit, that before this challenge I thought nothing of herringbone stitch. I considered it quite boring actually. I'm so glad I decided to lurk around the WWW before stitching and see what could possibly be done with such a boring stitch. Lo and behold - lots of things! I like it. If you are curious to know the stitches used in this sampler follow this link to Flickr, where I've added notes to the stitches. (Slide over the photo with your cursor to make the notes appear). Clicking on the main photo will lead you to the same image in Flickr with two more stitch names.

TAST Week 1

First week's stitch was Fly stitch. I do not have any emtions with this stitch, neither good nor bad. I think it's a great  stitch to combine and create patterns, but it was a tad boring to stitch. Nevertheless I may use it in my future projects.

TAST Week 3

Kolmanda tikketeisipäeva teemaks oli varesejalgpiste (Feather stitch). Nagu ka Kreeta piste [Oravakese blogist leidsin kauni sõnastiku, mille kohaselt on tegu silmuspistega], siis minu arvates on sellel pistel miljon erinevat tikkimisviisi. Olga Soone raamatus "Tikime" on pilt kümne erineva pisteversiooniga ja neid on veel meeletult palju. Seekord piirdusin siiski ainult mõnede järeleproovimisega.

TAST Week 3 proposes the Feather Stitch. Love it! I believe, just as Cretan stitch, this has about gazillion ways to combine and stitch. I only tried a few but enjoyed it tremendously.

TAST 2012 Week 4

New Year begins with a new challenge. few years ago, when SharonB had another TAST I began the challenge, but the poor choice of fabric as well as lack of proper tools ate up my motivation and I quit only a few weeks into the project. The middle years have replenished my stashes and more importantly this time I have an IDEA.
I only discovered the new TAST a few days ago, so I'm busy stitching the previous stitches. Here is my first one, week 4 and Cretan Stitch.

Take a Stitch Tuesday vol 1 & 2

Due to a big project in my life I'm very behind with this amazing "workshop", but doing my best to find time for one stitch a week. Yetsreday I did 2 and I am sooo hooked.
I'm using an old jeans (lighter type) skirt I made way back and some cotton thread (which is really for knitting and crocheting... huh it makes stitching difficult, but it looks nice).
First week: Herringbone stitch

I must admit that I had to RIP twice before an idea suddenly came and I knew what to do with the stitches. First I just tried them and it didn't look nice or made any sense, but it was worth waiting. Why I chose jeans? Well I don't have many materials at home, since I don't have a sewing machine, I didn't want to start stitching "just because", I needed to make something I didn't have to sew afterwards. Luckily I remembered my only plain (and not brand new) skirt, which happens to be made of jeans' material.
Second week: Buttonhole stitch

I know that it looks funny and odd-shaped and reminds you something, but I haven't finished with the beads yet :). I didn't find this stitch as versatile and interesting as herringbone, since it looks better in symmetrical shapes which I honestly am not after with this project. It looks marvellous in triangles and squares, but if you have a material on which you cannot count the threads between each stitch - this just doesn't let you play as much. Plus the horizontal row forming at the bottom limits it.
Till next time!
