Midagi väikest / Little something

Oeh, koon ja koon ja tikin ja tikin, aga ette näidata pole midagi. Kuni tänaseni. Annan endale ausalt aru, et kudumite kõige keerulisem osa on otste peitmine ja viimistlemine. Pildistamisest rääkimata. Aga vanad võlad tuleb ju likvideerida ja seekord sai süütunne võitu, otsad peidetud ja modelle mul ju jagub, niiet püüdsime selle bareti ka mälukaardile.

Knitting and knitting, stitching and stitching some more, but I've had nothing to show you. Until today. I'm truthful about the fact that weaving in ends and blocking knit is the hardest part of this craft. Not to mention taking a photo of the FO. Luckily guilt wins sometimes and stuff gets finished from time to time. And it only took me 2 months to take a photo!

Bareti juures meeldib mulle kõige enam selle serv. Kudum tuli küll suur ja lohvakas, aga mulle meeldib nii. Ainult et heledaid lokke, mille peal seda peakatet kanda, mul enam pole. Nii juhtub, kui ühe töö valmimist kaks ja pool aastat edasi lükata.
Vaatasin Ravelry'st järele, et silmused lõin üles 11 Oktoober 2008. Lõnga sain mäletatavasti Liannist Tallinnas ja selleks on Alvita Alpaka. Väga mõnus lõng. Vardad olid 3 ja 3,5 mm. Puudu on veel vaid kummist, et müts paremini peas püsiks. Muster on Dropsi leheküljelt pärit.

I like the picot cast-on on this beret. It came out a tad bigger than it was meant to be, but seeing other projects on the web, I think it actually works out well. Only, that the long blond curly hair I imagined to have under the beret, I no longer possess. I guess it's a price to pay when one takes 2 and half years to finish a project.
I checked it up on my Ravelry notebook and looks like I cast on on 11th of October 2008. I used Alvita Alpaca yarn and 3 and 3,5 mm needles. Pattern comes from Drops website.

Marabou Beret

My Bainbridge Scarf needed a hat and I am in the mood of berets. I googled and "raveled" but couldn't find one I really like. Plus I wanted to continue the Broken Rib theme, so in the end I had to come up with my own design, which turned out to be quite fun and I learned a lot. I have just finished writing it down and you can download for free from here (.pdf file). Se qualcuno e' interessata lo posso scrivere anche in italiano. Lasciate mi un commento.
The beret has nothing to do with the Marabou Stark but has a lot to do with the Swedish nut chocolate Marabou. Believe me, designing might become quite a fattening process, if you have to frog a lot and the only thing helping you avoid stress and depression is a chocolate bar ;)

Beret in 31+ degrees

We've arrived in the Singapore heat, but the very first and very chilly impressions made quite clear that my wool knitting life is not suspended yet, for indoors it really is cold, freezing cold.

And as comfort knitting I finished a beret in two nights. I used handpaintedyarn.com Ejido 160 100% merino with 4,5 mm dpn and circular needles and followed Tweed Beret instructions (with modifications) from Interweave Knits 2006 Fall until the decrease rounds, I increased slightly more and changed stockinette stitch edge to 1x1 rib to make a better fit.

SKS gift swap in Estonia

Christmas is over and we are back home from Estonia. I've done some necessities and can finally show you what kept me busy and FOless for the months of November and December.
First our gift-swap in Estonia.
I received a very ME-beret from Vikike.


I on the otherhand tried for the first time entrelac and made a gift for Pampel.
Yarn: Filatura di Crosa Zara (100% merino extra fine , 50 gr = 125 m)
Used: ca 280 gr
Needles: 3,75 mm bamboo
Pattern: my own (length blocked 210 cm, width 25 cm. After blocking 195 cm and 20 cm accordingly - the pattern tends to shrink out of blocking that gives it the special texture)
It was fun to knit, but hiding the ends was horrible for if I remember correctly there were 72*2 yarn ends. Since I recieved my pal's questionnaire in October and forests of fall are very colorful - they became my inspiration. I must compliment the yarn which has become my favourite along handspun yarns, Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino and Cathay.

Approaching winter

As the winter is slowly drawing near (don't mind the near + 20 degrees outside today, okay?) I have been making small preparations for it.
I crocheted myself a beret and a neckpiece - they are crocheted with two different yarns - wool, which was too hard on my neck, and mohair to make it more soft and airy. The collar also has some added on beads and a beautiful button from my grandmother's collection.
