Vabaheegelduse esimesed sammud / Freeforming for the first time

Last week I participated in a small course of freeform crochet and knitting given by Prudence Mapstone here in Singapore. We actually met two days earlier at a local knit out, where she showed us some of her marvelous creations as well as gave a demo of freeform crochet. In 20 minutes she came up with this and I was hooked.

Kuidas muidu oleks 3 tundi lausa lennanud ja me neljakesi saanud suurema hulga inspiratsiooni.

So hooked that that night I stayed up very very late and kept trying to crochet very misshapen bullions. I asked a lot of questions about Prudence's knitty-crochety life that evening ;) so that two days later at Betsy's place I was very eager to know the little tricks of freeforming. Prudence is such a marvelous teacher that the three hours just flew by and I continued crocheting my piece also at home. We had a truly enlightening evening and hopefully I'll be able to meet Prudence somewhere else as well - after all, the world is tiny.

Minu töö kursusel õpitust sai selline, kuigi ma jõudsin ka täiesti vabaheegelduse põhimõttete vastaselt pisut üles harutada.

Anyways, after some ripping (yes, yes, I know this ought not be part of freeforming, but a wrong color choice and huge ruffles kinda didn't work for me at all) and some more experimenting I decided to finish my red explorations with this.

Elu esimene... / My first...

Registreerisin end just elu esimesele käsitööalasele kursusele, et leida kasutust neile...

I just registered myself to the first handicraft course in my life, mainly to use up these...

Material for the course of P. Mapstone

...to widen my view on crafts, to create interest for myself in crocheting and figure out whether freeform crocheting-knitting could be part of my future hobby-life.
In the beginning of February, there is going to be Prudence Mapstone's workshop in Singapore, of which I got information accidentally on Ravelry. Life is full of strange coincedences and with this I refer to my last post and first comment on that post.
On 5th of Febryuary I'm crocheting!!

Karamell / Lollipop

I've made quite a few cotton items in the past few years (you might remember this, these and these) and I've had a shoe box full of scrap yarns (maybe 30-40 grams each ball). Until a few months ago I've deceived myself constantly thinking that one day I would be the new Prudence Mapstone with my creations in freeform crochet, but at this moment I need space and I need it fast (yep, I have a new order arriving from the other side of the ocean) so I had no other option but to use the scraps as fast as possible, empty the box and therefor make some space in the bed, and since the summer vacation is quite near, a new summer hat was in order. Of course for my daughter who has been bugging me quite awhile with requests on knitted garments.
Armed with 4 mm crochet hook and scraps I started working in single crochets and finished yesterday with this:

New hat

It has 3 different yarns in 6 different colourways:
Katia Jamaica in 4002 (beige, green, red) and 4003 (blue, pink, beige
Ornaghi Filati Alicante in 65 (greens) and 62 (pinks)
GB Wolle Mosaik in pink and lilac.
I started it like a beanie and later I crocheted the brim.

Odds and ends - mainly cottons
Tundub, et meeldib. Ja lõnga jagub veel teisegi jaoks.

She seems to be very happy with it. I have enough to make a second one ;)

She likes her hat
